Section Hiker

The term section hiker refers hikers or backpackers that are hiking the entire length of a trail system, such as the Continental Divide Trail (CDT), Appalachian Trail (AT) or Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) end-to-end in sections over an extended period of years or months as opposed to thru-hiking the entire trail in one go. Each chunk of trail is referred to as a section hike. For example the John Muir Trail is a section of the Pacific Coast Trail and could be one section on a section hikers trail agenda. A section hiker may complete these sections as fast or slow as they choose.
