Sleeping Pad

A sleeping pad is a foam-insulating, air mattress or hybrid of the two that backpackers and campers put under their sleeping bag to provide a more comfortable sleeping surface and keep them off of the cold ground. This is vital in cool climates overnight as a sleepers weight will press down in contact with the ground and the close contact with the ground will negate the insulating qualities of the sleep system in addition to exposing the sleeper to loss of body heat through contact with the cold ground.
