Top Quilt

A top quilt or quilt is similar to a sleeping bag with the exclusion of a zipper like a sleeping bag and are used more like a home comforter, with the sides wrapped under the body. Top quilts do not wrap completely around the underside, unlike a sleeping bag, saving weight, since the insulation under the user’s body is compressed and providing no benefit.

Top quilt benefits over sleeping bags include lighter weight since there is no zipper and less material since the user’s underside is not completely wrapped by the quilt. Top quilts are also more versatile as they can be used like a traditional comforter that would be used at home, which makes ease of use when needing to vent without having to unzip and are easier to use in hammocks due to the lack of zipper.
