Alpine Science Forums Terms of Usage

The are general guidelines for using the Alpine Science forums. This is not an exhaustive list and this is not a democracy. Above all, use common sense, treat others like you would like to be treated and give others the benefit of the doubt.

Be Nice

Be civil. Abuse, disrespectful behavior, trolling, attacks, flaming & baiting are not tolerated.

Be polite. Even on the internet. Use the same tone and behavioral judgement you would use when speaking face-to-face. Polite debate is welcome as long as you are discussing the ideas, not attacking the person.

Respect the forum staff. Many moderators are volunteers.

Need Help or Have Feedback?

Feedback is welcome the in the Support & Feedback Forum, which is also the place to request assistance with issues you might be having. If you believe an error has been made in moderation or other staff actions, please post politely in the Feedback and Help Forum and help us understand your perspective.

Use Relevant Forums and Keep Threads on Topic and Constructive

Threads need to be constructive, placed in the relevant forum and have a clear topic. Subsequent replies need to also be constructive and on topic to ensure that the integrity of that topic isn’t compromised. Bumping a thread without adding additional relevant information is not considered constructive.

Use informative titles. Keep your post titles short and on-topic so the forums are easier to navigate. If you’re asking a question, it should go in the title.

Search Before You Post

It is likely that a thread on your topic or an answer to your question already exists. Use the search function to avoid creating duplicate threads and find the most appropriate subforum to post in.

Advertising | Soliciting | Self-Promotion

Blatant spamming and astro-turfing / shilling is not allowed, use common sense. Your potential customers will resent you spamming them. Reputation is everything.

We want companies to participate in conversations. We also want companies to post about their latest products and updates in the proper forum, which is the Company Updates forum.

We also want to hear about your blog or latest venture. We like new ideas and information. We don’t like blatant attempts to profit via our forums. Just realize that if you spam and don’t provide true value / information, you’re only hurting yourself.

Legitimate user recommendations and requests for help are permitted, but in ambiguous circumstances users without a previous forum track record will not be given the benefit of the doubt.

Moderation and Bans

Our moderators have the ability to move, delete and lock threads, to edit and delete posts and to ban accounts temporarily or permanently. You will be informed (by email to the registered account) if you have been given a ban. Temporary bans may vary from 1 to 14 days, with most “first bans” being 24 hours.
